Speakers in Fairing

I seem to have a lot of questions but this forum has been so helpful so I thought I would once again ask. I need to replace the speakers in my fairing. The stock speakers really don't sound very good. I think part of the issue is the volume needs to be so high when on the highway so that I can hear it.

Any speaker recommendations that will last, sound good and can handle higher volumes?

For your question on speakers, if you are not going to upgrade with power amp then I don't think there are any speakers out there that you can use with OEM system to make them louder. I currently use Fosgate 300amp with Alpine speakers and that works. I can be flying down the road with my loud pipe and still able to hear my music but it's turned up 75%.

Hi Debbie....Bob in Old Bridge here...was at Williams HD in Lebanon this morning and they do have upgraded speakers for our bike. They were the Boom Stage I...6 1/2” and no amp upgrade is required. Reviews on the Harley site are mixed though in that, while they sound good, some people were blowing out without an amp. Hope this helps.

Thanks. So maybe adding an amp is the way to go with these speakers.

You will definitely have to go with an amp to boost sound, no speakers (unless speakers have amp integrated) will do the trick without one. Spazz will be the right person to talk to about any sound upgrade, he seems to have ton of knowledge of that.

I don't have the Harley stage 2 so no experience with it. I can tell you I have a buddy with a CVO and they have replaced his speakers twice now. When riding together he has to listen to mine at 80 mph because my system just over powers his.

Good luck with your choice but my opinion is the stage 2 stuff is over priced junk.

Tom, can you give us more details about how your buddy plays his radio, such as, does he play it at max volume and with lots of bass? What year is his CVO? I have heard about speakers blowing and I am trying to pinpoint the cause. Thanks

FWIW... There are SEVERAL options for aftermarket audio... I don't recommend HARLEY audio... they make motorcycles... that is their market... NOT AUDIO....moneys will be better spent elsewhere.

Budget is a key player in what you want/need.... some of us go over the top ( GUILTY ) or close to it... but one reason is this... we want to do things ONCE... RIGHT... the first time. there is nothing worse than knowing what you want/need and settling for less, only to be less than satisfied when you do. Then it can cost you more in the long run.

He plays it loud I'm pretty sure unless he's riding close to me then he has to listen to mine because he has no choice. I know BaggerJ has had the same problem with his stage 2 system he had installed on his special. Maybe he will give some thoughts if he see's this thread.

If you meant to say CAN'T... you are somewhat correct.

HD will NOT and CANNOT flash your head unit for aftermarket amps, it has not been allowed since around May-June of 2017. MOCO took the abilities away from the dealerships.

All this means is that you have to resort to independent shops that have a scan tool to get your flash done... I have a scan tool for flashing the head units for systems I install..

FYI.. since flashing has been performed from the 2014 models to the present 2018's, DTC's ( Diagnostic Trouble Codes) will be present when flashed for aftermarket amps and speakers. The reason for this is due to the fact that aftermarket amps do not utilize the factory P&A connections and therefore are not recognized by the system.

If you ever have a flash done for aftermarket and your bike goes to HD service, you MUST tell them not to correct the audio errors shown by the codes... if they do, you will have lost your custom flash.
