OK Folks, Some of you asked me to do a review on the Factory Fairing brand of lowers available on eBay. After exhaustive studying all the brands out there, it appeared to me that this brand, Hogworkz and Easyfairings had some quality products at substantial savings**. My order for the new style 2014-16 Factory Fairings came quickly and even included a set of Speaker boxes as well and all for $249! I sent them off to the painter for a fresh coat of Mysterious Red Sunglo and got them back a couple of days ago. Everything was included in this set for install including all hardware. They went on rather easy since they come assembled but I disassembled for paint. Even then there are only 3 major components: Glove compartment, Fairing and upper end cap.
There were two minor snafus in installation.
First the lower crash bar clamp is a bugger to conform to the bar and match up the boltholes. Its rubber coated and I had to reshape it for the hole matchup.
Lastly, the picture below with my finger pointing shows the back wall of the glove compartment that you have as access to screw the nut on the end finishing cap screw. Since it's double walled, it takes a 7/16 socket but the hole is too small to slip the socket thru without a re-drill and a 5/8 drill bit. It added an extra 20 minutes to the first side install but after that I drilled the second glove pocket before installation. As you can see I purchased the vented/Screen model designed for the 103 water-cooled. I figured that I would cover the screens inside (clear heavy duty tape) for winter riding and un-tape them in hot weather. Lastly the actual vent that you direct or block air to the engine and rider did NOT come with the slide lever and rod to the vent as OEM's do but, it’s not a problem for me to manually adjust this metal flap. By the way, the glove doors are metal and magnetic and are much easier to open than OEM. Also, My Fork fangs work without any interference at all! I have now painted the knobs semi flat black.
To sum this all up: Like all the rest, this kit comes in Black only and at $249 for the set and hardware it’s a heck of a good deal . . . . . . . . H O W E V E R,
** If you plan on painting these, you might just as well buy the OEM set pre-painted especially if you get a 10-15% discount like I do because with that, it’s almost a wash in costs. With shipping and paint, I have $540 in these, OEM painted are $700 minus my 15% discount plus 9.25% tax = $654. BUT . . I’m very happy with the thickness and overall quality of these and-I had fun doing this as my winter project!!!
