That's right, i just spent over 10% of the bikes purchase price on a radio that is supposedly bluetooth but cannot connect to any bluetooth headset on the market today. Worse yet, HD has no plans for one at the moment and any conversation you have with them on this issue is quickly dispensed of as not important etc. The HD customer service rep. was curt, arrogant and condescending and failed to explained to me why the parts & accessories catalog indicates that bluetooth headsets would work with the system when they do not. So for now I have my $2,000 infotainment system used as a holder for a one cent piece of velcro that holds my cell phone in place so that I can use my Cardo Scala G9 Bluetooth headset. I will not be duped into spending any more money on this bike to add an antiquated, decades old, corded headset. So be forewarned people, don't bother with HD's ridiculous excuse for an infotainment system when you can by a $20 smart phone holder and a Sena or Scala bluetooth system for a couple few hundred dollars that knocks the crap out of the HD Infotainment system. Again, what is most maddening about all of this is that HD just doesn't give a crap at all. Don't believe me? Give them a call and I'm sure you will quickly agree that customer service believes... we all suck and we're all just suckers.

The H-D infotainment marketing is misleading about bluetooth in my opinion. I understand your situation.

I checked it out before I purchased and went with a J&M corded headset built into an Arai Signet Q helmet. Works great for me. Fully functional with voice control, good audio, works all day with no batteries to keep charged or charger to carry around.

The bike does need a headset connection socket: Headset Connection

Ah . . . such is so MF2014-
I too was buffaloed by the perception of the radios features (for Street Glides). No socket for wired headset on FLHX models.
I have a work around that works for me:
-I have a iPhone so I connect it via USB to the Boombox.
-Make sure com settings are correctly setup and you select "scan" and not "seek" or "repeat".
-I have an LG 730 BT headset (pic below) that I pair with my iPhone ($40-50).
All works well and I can even Scroll the playlist selections from the Left Toggle.

What it doesn't do I wouldn't do anyway;
Select contacts from the list
Make or answer calls while riding. Isn't that a primary reason of why we ride to escape all that????

Hey-It is what it is but, I love the Street Glide Special ! ! !

I use a Scala also. I knew it would blue tooth to the head set but bought them bike anyway. got more for your money than just the radio but not the point.

I split the BT signal and send my phone to my headset and my music to the radio. I can control all my music selections on the screen, and still have bike to bike and phone capabilities.

Ok, so for those of you that saw my earlier posts regarding the lack of functionality with a bluetooth headset please look at page 598 of the P&A catalog. The fact that they will do nothing about this or even discuss it is very upsetting. HD's continued refusal to acknowledge it even when confronted with the data on page 598 of their P&A catolog which clearly states that the system "does" work with bluetooth headsets is outrageous and unacceptable. I'm not taking about not getting sprinkles on your ice-cream here. This radio costs about $2k with taxes etc. It's simply not fair for those of us who relied on the P&A catalog to take it on the chin this way. If HD would just say they were working on it then I would be fine. But their failure to even talk about this is maddening.

The catalog does state "and Bluetooth pairing of mobile phones and wireless headsets".

It also states:
IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ We have tried to make this catalog comprehensive and factual. All product descriptions (including depictions, specifications, dimensions, measurements, ratings and competitive comparisons) are based on available information at the time of publication. Although such descriptions are believed correct, errors and changes can occur and complete accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Harley-Davidson may make changes at any time to prices and specifications, and may change or discontinue any of the items depicted in this catalog, without notice and without incurring any obligation.
ATTENTION Vehicles in the configurations shown and the accessories described in this catalog may not be available for sale or use in some locations. Please check with your dealer for complete product details and the latest information.

The H-D information online is more up-to-date and states that a corded headset is required. To have a solid case, I believe you will have to have been mislead by the selling dealer.

Hulkss I understand and have toned it down a bit but this is a "big" omission considering the big deal they made of the "bluetooth" aspect of the system. did you notice all the TV ads etc showing what appeared to be a "bluetooth" system in use? Hum... it just seems a bit misleading to me. I love the bike in every other way but the technology is something I really wanted and as you said, the P&A catalog has it wrong and for those of us who made our purchases early on, we are paying the price for this little piece of knowledge. And... since this piece of knowledge costs so much, I think it only fair to share it with others so they are well aware of the "mistake?" in the HD catalog.

Yes, I agree with your point and I made the same assumption you did. I was fortunate enough to find info contrary to the catalog and other publications. I would really be upset if I had bought a new bluetooth helmet instead of the wired one I selected.

The "deceptive" part to me was that the SGS as delivered has no place to plug-in the wired headset - go figure

Yes upset but I wouldn't mind the wired headset except for the fact that most of the people I ride with use the wireless bluetooth Scala G9 and I don't know anyway to incorporate the G9 into the HD "wired" headset. Do you? I don't want to have 2 booms for my mouth piece and 4 speakers in my helmut, LOL. Does any one know a way to combine these two technologies? I hear AKE has a dongle for this but you lose stereo in the 2way mode. I think perhaps HD will have something for this by the time the snow melts so perhaps we just wait 'til spring and see...

So, how did you "split" the bluetooth signal? I have the G9 so I plug into the USB of the bike but do "NOT" pair with the bike's bluetooth and instead only pair the G9 and the iPhone. This works pretty good but you can't see on the bike's monitor who is calling and since the iPhone is in the compartment of the fairing, you can't see the screen of the iPhone either. So, is this how you have yours?

Either Apple or Android allow you to designate which part of the single goes to what. I don't have an IPhone handy to tell you but on android do the following:

Connect your helmet to the phone, under the in the Bluetooth devices you see the scala connected, there is a setting wheel, click that and there should be 2 boxes showing, 1 for media 1 for phone, uncheck the media. disconnect your head set.

Connect the bike to the phone, go to the devices, click the HD connection settings and uncheck the phone. turn off the bike.

When you turn everything back on, they will be splitting the signal, now start the media player on your phone and if you want to shuffle your music, you need to do that from the phone. The songs will show on the display of the bike, and the left toggle will run through your play list.

The headset still does the bike to bike, and the phone. When you get or make a call, the music on the bike will still pause, and start back when you hang up!

Its not right, and I get your point, and I agree with Hulk that the deception to me is that it doesn't come fully equiped to work any any mannor without the plug in, but I do not want to be plugged in so this is what I have come up with and find it works pretty well and covers about 80% of what the Tech should be doing from the bike.

On a side, note - I am not buying a 400.00 module for S/XM, so I play it through my phones internet for 3 bucks a month. works good as long as you have 3/4G.

Bonus to all of this is, you can still plug your phone in the USB jack and keep it charged if you can figure out how to wedge it in there with the useless cushon pad.

Designflaw; Bonus to all of this is said:
Designflaw, Thanks for the "split tip". I have an iPhone and have not figured out the split on it as of yet.
Here's a tip for all I have done:
On the third day of SGS ownership I too decided that HD Rushmore group must have been smoking something when they designed the foam rubber cushion pad your phone fits (NOT!) in. I took the pad out and threw it away and bought a 1/4 black foam rubber sheet, cut it to fit and slid it in the pocket. Now I can acutally get my phone in and out of the dang thing!!!!!

I am have huge issues splitting the iPhone signal. The headset pairs perfectly to the iPhone and the iPhone pairs to the bike.
When I am paired between the phone and headset all is good as soon as I turn on the bike and it pairs to the phone I lose the music but retain phone use in the headset. I know I am missing something but what? Please advise.
Thanks

Randy

I couldn't get the "Split" concept to work either . . . . . .
So I’m thinking about “springing the $$” for the console/headset parts for my FLHXS. My parts guy came up with the part numbers that allow the Ultra Style connection for the Boombox. They are:

1 ea. Medallion CB Pod, 14100109________________$15.10
5 ea. Pan head Torx screw, 4194___________$ .44 > $2.20
1 ea. CB Pod Fuel Tank Console, 77153-08________$85.42
1 ea. Retainer Bracket RR Console, 77177-08_________$2.58
2 ea. Retainer Bracket FR Console, 77188-08___$2.58>$5.16

You will still have to add your headset and either the J&M or HD cable

Because the console insert on the SGS has a rounded top and the Ultra’s is flat, he designated the console insert off a ’12 or ’13 CVO instead and he says it fits the stock FLHXS console.

if you have told the phone to put the music to the stereo and the phone to the headset, pair the headset separately. Turned it off. pair the bike, turn it off.

try turning the bike on first letting it pair up and then turn your headset on. that doesn't work then try the opposite.

I have had a couple issues when I turn the bike and the headset on generally the same time before the phone is completely paired to one or the other

I have not yet found any iPhone menus allowing splits for Bluetooth.
