I'm new to Harley Davidson. I wanted to post a thread asking the experienced harley guys what do I need to know in regards to maintenance, washing, modding, winter storage and riding such a fine bike.

There are a few detailing threads... microfiber towels are a must.... CLEAN wash gear.... blow dry if you can... I use a clean shop vac as a blower.

I ride my sled as much as I can unless rain/snow stops me in the winter months.... no winter storage for me.

I picked up 15 microfiber towels from Costco for $12 last week and have used my Stihl backpack blower to dry it.

And remember you are riding an air cooled bike the higher the octane the fuel is the cooler the bike will run.

Yep... I always run 91-93 octane.. on the open road with stage 1... getting 47.5 mpg

This may help http://www.moccsplace.com/images/harley/debunk/debunk.htm

agree with the rest but I use Pig Spit & Lucas Oil Slick Mist. Pig Spit makes all those dark areas look nice...
including cabling.

Basic maintenance is pretty easy and oh get a good motorcycle jack. I have the sears aluminum, lov it!

Mods well you just need a lot of $$$. Just got back home as the afternoon storms are here (florida) :( and I have a grand siting in the cart

I went over to Kutter this afternoon to pick up a few things including docking hardware, sissy bar, back rest pad, aux lights, and daymaker LED aux bulbs and saddle bag guards. Only thing I actually picked up was a MVP membership. Most of what I was looking for is on back order.

The MVP program is pretty cool deal. 15% off on parts the more you spend with them the more you get off. $80 for a lifetime membership.

I get about 35 mpg on average that is a combination so about 32 in town and 38ish on the highway

Average 43-45 here, (dynoed so its getting more juice I suppose)

I'm getting 41.5 on the freeway, fully loaded bags and tourpack with my wife on it duing 75-80 the whole time

I'm only getting 41 to 43 on the highway at 75 to 80 better get after the upgrades soon.

My last tank I got 42mpg. That was running 92 octane with no ethanol. My bike has had a bit of engine modding. I find my mileage can vary significantly. Factors are city/highway, 1up/2up, Aggressive throttle, ethanol/non ethanol, and even riding all day with a strong tailwind or headwind can change mpg. Generally I ride plan at 40mpg and have never come up short.
