Metzler Tires

I had Metzlers on my Eglide and loved them. They did not wear as well as Dunlops, but for mountain roads they were hard to beat. On the Streetglide, hear in Michigan, I plan to stay with Dunlops.
 
I used to run nuthing but Metzlers. The rubber is softer and they really grab the road so, you won't get the mileage like a Dunlop. Was the cupping on the front or rear?
 
I have used Metzlers (I think they were ME 880's) on my old Harley (98 FLHT) and found them to be quite good from a wear and grip perspective. Never had any trouble with cupping.

What pressure were you running?

Only the main streets in the major capitals, the rest are dirt --:) Seriously it depends what state you live in - I am in NSW and the roads are rubbish !!! Victoria's are better because the cops are speed gun happy and its hard to speed if you are dodging the potholes --:)

I am so going to use that one, thanks Fire! To keep this thread on track, if I ever end up back out west I might try a set of Metzlers on the Street Glide. Wonder if they make them in my size? Better check on that.
 
Been mulling this over as well, but I must say the OEMs have not done me wrong on any bike I've had and, of course, they were/are all Dunlop so I'll probably just stick with them..

Bill , how many miles have you put on since you switched back? You have not noticed any unusual wear on the dunlop? running the same air preasure in both? I would like to try somthing different then the dunlop i ride my bike pretty hard..so hard I almost feel bad for it haha.But maybe i best stick with the dunlop.I liked the feel of the avons on my sporties , but wear is a serious problem ( or again it could be my riding style) I need a tire bad gotta order one in tommorow anyone suggest a rear tire?

Well i noticed i never finish my reply to this thread, I installed a metz 888 and wore it off now i have installed a set of pirrelli's route 66 and they seem nice the metz were way to slippery in the rain.And I only got a cpl thousand miles on it and i remember only 3 gd burnouts...I also installed a new front the tire is a lil bit bigger then the OEM's the feel is awesome in corners I will post rain performance when i hit that point...Cheers

I've got 9,500 on mine now and the tires look barley worn-Yeah!
 
I have been doing tire testing at work for a few years now. Many different brands on different motorcycles. Doesn't seem to matter what brand of motorcycle we are testing but the Dunlops and the Michellins always seem to hold up the best under most conditions. The Metzler was ok, I just didn't like the way it handled at high speeds.
 
I ran 888's on my old FLSTS, never got good mileage out of them, went back to Dunlops.
I thought they sucked on wet roads also.
 
Guys as a reminder, check your tire pressure at least 1 time per month. I run 42 up front and 40 in the rear.
