Ive been waiting to pull the trigger on some PY Monkey bars soonI've Confirmed it with 3 other sources, and since i live here in Phoenix, i went to the source myself to get some info. Pauls Bar guy said they weren't sure on how high you could go without extending the cables and lines, so i checked in with Scottsdale Harley's parts guy and he said 10''.

Doing more research, because well i have the time before i pull the trigger, i talked with 3 different people that CONFIRMED that you can do as high as 12'' without extending lines. The caveat being, you have to slightly break loose the banjo bolts on the clutch and break lines to slowly point them toward the opening where the lines come through the fairing (so they clear the speaker portion of the fairing). I've done this before, so i'm comfortable with it, but some may not be. It goes without saying that You must be careful not to introduce air into the lines. Also, you need to cut ALL zip ties that hold the lines inside the fairing to get that extra slack.

Another interesting find, for those dreading doing this themselves, is the Molex Pin connector that you have to disassemble and reassemble after you re wire the bars. '16 models have a SMALLER connecter, meaning just slide it through, no dismantling the connector and saving yourself about an hour or so worth of mind numbing finger pains (for the inexperienced).

For those that are mechanically inclined, and have been wanting to do this for a while now and don't want to spend a mortgage payment putting bars on at their dealer or shop, here's a link to the video for a 2015 MODEL. The process is the same, minus the connector splitting portion obviously.

And ill obviously post pictures when i pull the trigger here for my '16 denim in about a month on my New exhaust/Air cleaner/Bars.

I've watched that video also.
Looks like a good way to spend a few hours in the shop.
Bars are next for me and the bike.

That's the video I used. He is on point.

I've heard that you can go up to a 14" as long as they are not Yaffe bars or bars that are too wide. I would be safe and order 12's to be safe. Thinking about doing it myself.

I just finished installing LA Choppers 13" Prime Apes on my 15 SGS had no problems with the brake or clutch lines. You do have to crack the lines to realign them to the new bars , but the lines are not tight at all. The only problem I had with the prime apes was that the bars were 1/16 to thick had to remove powder coating on one side and the chrome on both sides to get the grips on and to get the switch housings to close. Bit of a job but looks good now!

12" PYOMB here. Installed myself watching the aforementioned video. Not hard, just time consuming. Highly recommend purchasing the 12" NAMZ wire extensions and greasing the right sides wires while threading through the bars.

I just did la choppers 18" apes on my 16 SG, and I can give you some lessons learned... 1. The Harley switch extensions will not fit with 18's. You need two sets of extensions. The small molex extensions still need to be de-pinned and removed for the routing process, but its very easy. Pins release from the rear and locks are in from the front face. The stock tbw wires are long enough. The connectors for the first set of switch wire extensions will need to be removed from the switch boxes and fed into the bars to get enough length to re pin the molexes at the clamp, and then the pinned connectors need to be stuffed back info the bars. This was 18's mind you, but it was definitely a job.

I used the same YouTube video to install my 10" Wild 1 Chubby Apes. Running the wires through the handlebars REALLY sucked, but otherwise an easy job. Definitely better than paying to have someone else do it.

I have the same bike, and will be curious to see how the 12" install is without the wire extension. I will be installing
my bars myself, just can't decide on the 10" or 12" bars

Gonna order the 13" Primates tomorrow for my '16 SG Special and 4" NAMZ Wire extentions, just curiousif I need the tbw extension with the 13" bars? Any feed back would be great?

Sorry about the lack of Update everyone, Just had my pre-paid 10K done. A lot of riding since this post, and Install.... and not just the bars. :)

Most all installs have their hiccups, i'm a certified technician, and i still have mine (mostly due to lack of tools that were lent out. NEVER DO THAT!). The install mostly went without a hitch. I did everything entirely myself and out a lift or jack, using mostly my body to position and hold still the bike. Talk about Motorcycle Yoga... It took most of the day, with beer breaks obviously, and i took pictures of most everything, but there are a lot, and i don't think anyone wants to scroll through that, so ill get right to the goods and hiccups.

I went 12'' on mine. Routing the cables was a breeze on the left, a giant pain in the ass on the right. Paul Yaffee's points on the monkey bars aren't the easiest thing to get around with a throttle cable and switch wires. I never had to de-pin anything though! White lithium grease is a must, be generous with the lube like you would with your ol' lady, its the humane thing to do! A lot of wiggling and pulling one wire, then another. Of course it would have been easier to de-pin, but whats the challenge aside from Patience? with 12'', after you pull them through, NOT A LOT OF SLACK sticking out of the bars, literally just the connectors! unbolting the wiring harness was a must, and snipping carefully the zip ties away methodically left me with the slack in the wiring harness to pull back and push them to the bars. bolting back in the wiring harness plate was awkward due to the weird plastic screws. be careful when reinstalling, they'll shoot out under a toolbox, and possibly strip out pretty easy. the throttle cable had more than enough slack to reach all the way down and get to its connector, so no worries there.

Another hiccup was the brake and clutch lines. Real tough to do by yourself. even after snipping the zip ties and carefully pulling up the slack. Mounting the fairing back on proved slightly difficult, because the lines would be in the way. i managed this by hooking bungee cords gently to pull down toward the highway bars while i slipped on the fairing and continued to button up. Probably not the best way to handle that situation, i'd recommend line extensions for those just incase, but it's been a month, and i ride my bike like i stole it through crappy Arizona roads. No leaks or failure yet!

As for the other add-ons, I opted for the Pro-Pipe in Black from V&H, and the Heavy Breather from HD. My tuner is the FP3, which was my first purchase shortly after i bought the bike. Some of these photos show the bike without the breather on, i bought the breather a week later after the pipes were installed, the bike ran Okay, but obviously not to it's full potential.

I am looking to purchase the Batwing Reach bars from Harley, but the "book" is saying that I will have to extend all of the wiring and the brake lines, but they only raise up 1" and come back 2", so I am not 100% sure the "book" is right.

Your bars seem a lot taller and you had enough slack to do it.

Any idea if I could do the Batwing reach on my 16 SGS?

Thanks
