Primary overfilled ???

Check out Macomb County Choppers, They have a fix, by changing the Rod that goes from Primary to Tranny. I just Bought one and installed. Now I'll see what happens

I’m getting close to 4K miles from my last tranny fill which is about the same amount of miles where I started noticing my initial fluid concerns.

So far the level is staying well within spec but it’s good to know shops like Macomb are out there making an effort to solve it.. thanks for posting this!

Well just did my 20k oil change (all 3 holes) and I did have some oil transfer. It was probably just a cup or less but it was enough that when I took off the derby cover, oil came out. I fill the primary to just below the brim of the derby cover (on side stand) so that was an easy tell.

Last 3 hole was at 1k miles per service interval. I don't remember the primary spilling over at 10k.

When you said “just a cup” - are you meaning a literal cup (8oz)?

I didn't measure it but yes a cup, or half a pint.

Primary overfilled ???

Update: So getting the clutch recall done today and the service manager said he wanted to go head and check my primary since I have about 4K miles on it since the last service (when they added dye to my tranny). Yep, plenty of dye in the primary so they have a call into mother HD for a decision. He said he expects they will be sending a new tranny.

Update: HD said they’re gonna try the fix kit. I think it’s just a deflector part of some sort?

The kit is in and I picked up the bike today. I told the wife next halfway decent 2 or 3 days, I’m gonna run her shiznitz out of her and see if the fix takes?

Not sure if anyone is reading these threads, but I’ll update anyway.

So with a little over 1k miles on the deflector kit (HD fix) the tranny is passing fluid much worse. Noticed no fluid on the tranny dipstick so drained the primary today - 45 oz of oil. Tranny - 14 oz.

Order the Macomb County Chopper 9mm Clutch Rod.

Hoping this gets the job done.

They now have a vent tube they install so it relieves the pressure so the fluid transfer will stop. Have seen the fix work on 4 different friends bikes.

Yea the dealer was telling me about that and describing the procedure to me.

Interesting when talking to Greg at Macomb, his fix does the same thing - the new rod provides for a pressure vent across the primary and tranny.

Or the dealer could get me on a wait list for a factory specialist to tear down the primary then drill out a hole through the inside cover and run a vent tube down the frame. Apparently, the dealers can’t do it?

Diameter is .355” whereas the OEM is .312”

Here’s a shot of one of the rod ends (same on both ends)

Just had 1K mile service done on my 2019 SGS and it had the issue as well. They are ordering the vent kit but still need to prove it is an issue to the MoCo. So they put dye in the tranny so when the parts come in and they check it again they can verify. They said I had to give it another 1K miles before they can recheck it and confirm it has the issue. Not sure if I like the idea of a vent tube coming out of the back of the primary to the ground.

Primary overfilled ???

Is your local service dept able to install it? A couple of months ago MoCo was sending out special trained techs to do this job.

I felt the same way about the added venting and plumbing but if Macomb’s clutch rod fails to fix it I’m gonna have to bite the bullet.

Follow up - the Macomb’s clutch rod definitely slowed it down but it did not stop the transfer sufficiently on my bike. Called Macomb’s and talked to Greg about it. He said they’re finding that about 2% of the clutch channel bores were requiring an “oversized” rod which they have machined a bit larger in diameter than their standard fix-it rod. He said I could send mine back for a refund or do a swap. I’m into it this far with Macomb’s so I’m doing the swap. Shipped today.

Talking to Greg, it’s obvious to me that his shop seems to be on top of this problem but will stand behind his product and support the customer whichever they want go.

I’ll keep the thread updated.

Curious how your Macomb’s fix is working?
