Starting my install today

Well I got most of everything today. Still need my speaker grillz which will be ready Saturday. Installing Arc XDI 600.4 amp, Focal 165krc in the fairing and Focal 570ac in the saddle bags. I'm using HD saddle bag lids.

I was doing a lil more research on my future upgrades and noticed you went with 4 ohm speakers instead of 2 ohm speakers... The Arc Audio 600.4 has plenty of power to push these with the Boom! 2 ohm output, but wondering about your reasoning behind the choices you made? Have you heard this setup or what?

Also... on a good note.. the sensitivity on the 165's is great at 93db.... but they bottom out at 60 Hz in freq response....

The 570's are only at 88db for sensitivity ( not bad though ) but they bottom out even higher at 65 Hz. You will be pushing 5Hz more lower freqs thru the fronts than the rear. I would prefer lower freqs thru the rear.....

IMHO... you will be losing out on bottom end with lots of lower mid-range power and sound. 5-10 Hz of freq is a lot when you don't have it there.... you may not miss it... but by the numbers... it's not there for me.

Not 'jabbing' at your choices here.... it's a great setup....just want your feedback on your choices for your system....We all have reasons for doing what we do, and I like different perspectives to bounce off my brain cells....

I talked to several people over on FB, there's a page for bagger stereo. I told my dealer what I typically listen to which is rock music and this was his recommendation. I wanted a larger rear speaker, but there is no decent speaker lids on the market right now. Benji with Legacy Baggers has the same speaker set up and I've heard his. This amp wasn't out when he did his so mine should sound a bit better. I also talked with Peter Jensen with Soundz and this is his recommendation also, I also bought the gear from him for a great price.

I appreciate the feedback. I thought benji's setup was on a pre-14 sled with a complete 4 ohm system...

FYI... there are speaker lids out that hold 6x9's with hydrophobic speaker grill cloth ( moisture barrier ).. but they come raw and need paint... so I can see how that can push people into the 5x7 OEM setup.... and are $440 ( and still need paint )

I looked at those lids and taking to Peter he didn't recommend them. He said the speakers fire though a small hole so the 5x7 speaker wins and he also said he has had issue with those lids having pits in them which causes more body work and higher dollar for lids.

Again... thanks for the feedback. I would figure the aftermarket stuff would not meet OEM quality and need work to be finished correctly.... I guess you may get a muffled sound affected by the cone... hmm.... more research....

thanks again...

No problem. From what I have heard and read there is better lids on the market that are ready to paint, just not for the '14's let. I'm sure it's an engineering issue making the lids for the '14 due to the new latch design.

I have cycle sounds amp and fairing speakers. There's can push 2 or 4 ohm speakers. Going with stock lids cause I want that look. Haven't decided on speakers yet still looking. Plus the cycle sounds lids look like they push the speaker father down into the bag reducing the room.

Wildchld, when you get your lids look at Surdyke's website, they had a great price.
Thanks but they will have to beat Jon's price from Horny Toad HD lol so far no one has. I have probably bought a couple grand of stuff from him.

Well I finished up everything today. Gotta say it sounds bad ass. I'll try to take a video later. I installed the grillz that Legacy Baggers made me yesterday and I wasn't feeling the yellow speaker behind it so I went to Home Depot this morning and picked up a sheet of aluminum that already has holes in it. Cut it out and painted it with some rust olumn that I had that a real close match for my bike, I like it a lot better. I had to install the speakers inside of the pods, a little trimming of the pod and everything fits.

A man of many talents . . . . Looks really professional!

Nice that looks really good. Are you getting the sound you want? I'm so deaf I don't know if it would really help.

Thanks, I didn't have to drill those holes, I got a sheet of aluminum from Home Depot with the holes in it. I can't believe what a difference it is. I know the stock speakers sucks, but it's a huge difference over the Polk speakers and Rockford amp that I had installed.

It's hard to find a speaker that beats the Rokker 5x7 for the OEM lids... I'm still trying to find one that can beat it ( by the numbers )

I will have my chance to talk to J&M in a few weeks at street Vibrations....

Don't get hung up on the numbers. I have read I don't know how many post over on FB's bagger stereo and most guys are either using Focal or Hertz speakers. I highly recommend you check out the site and talk to either Chris Lowe or Peter Jensen, both are great guys.

Bryan, What section did you find the aluminum sheeting in??

In my Home Depot there was an display on the end of an aisle where the insulation is, not sure why it was there, but that's where I found it.

I have been checking things out... opening up options ( blinders )....I am stuck on my old way of thinking I guess.... 4ohm speakers to 4 ohm load- 2ohm speakers to 2ohm load... I don't necessarily want to drive 4 ohm speakers with a 4ohm amp with a 2 ohm system. I know it's done a lot.. but you need double the power ( and stable ).
