V&H Fuelpak FP3

pretty nifty! personally I will stick with the Mastertune when I get there... that's my thoughts so far... but I could change my mind.... maybe....

This almost seems too good to be true.... under $400? AND the apps are FREE!?!?

I gotta look into this more....

FYI... the apps have a DEMO mode you can play with... I'm liking this more and more.

Thing is... if you talk you YOUR tech at HD ( I assume ).... you will have the same result I did. "I only like to use ------, it's the best for all parameters." blah blah blah....

Something like this with the auto-tune feature will surely ( if it's as good as they are claiming ) take the dyno profits down a bit.

I for one love to do my own work for the most part anyway... always have.

Keep us posted on what your tech says... thanks

I agree with you Spazz. I see a lot of the HD dealerships in my area of the country are setting up dynos at their shops, which means they are pushing their own products for custom tuning. This new fuel pack looks perfect for the guy that rides and isn't afraid to take on their own projects.

No doubt blkbrd.... and dyno runs can vary dramatically in price... depending on where you go and the performance gains ( and losses ) are out there from one end of the spectrum to the other.

The auto-tune feature ( once the tune is established on the FP3 ) allows you to change parameters on that particular tune as well....

For example: you may want to change your AFR at a certain range from 14.0 to 13.8... it will let you you do this to richen it up. It's shown in one of the videos.

Now... we all know that advertising can put out incorrect info ( as seen many times ).... so... until I see REAL proof.. like an owner on here... that can verify the claims of the informational videos of the FP3.... I will have to remain skeptical as to all the workings.... if you know where I am coming from.

All skepticism aside.... I am inclined and drawn to this tuner for me and my SGS more and more as time goes by and the more I look into it..... price is DEFINITELY right at $389 and the user interface is much more friendly ( and FREE apps ) than that of the others with software to purchase for your laptops.

Even thinking of changing up my plans for exhaust for 2-1 performance (V/H Pro Pipe ) over looks of 2-2 ( V/H Power Duals and CFR's ).... we shall see....

Spazz, FYI-I had Power Duals on my previous 2011 RK and loved them HOWEVER . . . . Several people (including my service mgr.) have told me after adding them to their SG/SGS models they had to pull them off. Because of the fact the SG's are '2 lower, the pipe drags when making right turns. Because of this I went to the True Duals. They look the same height but are in fact not. I have never scraped them yet.

Mojo,

Thanks for the insight... first I have heard of this.

EDIT:

Went on a 250 mile ride yesterday for lunch with 8 others... had a great day. Anyway.... one of the guys has the Power Duals on his 11 SGS and I can now see where you are coming from. The X-over pipe that runs to the left side just AFTER the 'X' is the low point....

What are the limitations of the FP3? Will it autotune with changed cams and other modifications beyond intake and exhaust?

No... its for other models as well...

What are peoples opinions of this tuner? What are its limitations with engine modifications. Eg is it only good for pipes and aircleaner changes, and limited to mild upgrades. How good is the autotune feature compared to a skilled technician and a dyno?

Purely based on reading the FP3 literature:

1. Should work well if V&H have a map to download for your bikes configuration.
2. Writes a new map to your ECM so your warranty is technically voided. This is the right way to program the ECM so not much else to say but that you gotta pay to play.
3. With no wide band sensors, auto tune will have limited capability. Driving around is also a poor substitute for a good chassis dyno.

Personally, I would buy the SE pro super tuner for a heavily modded motor (which also voids your warranty).

Or just have your dealer load a "street" tuning file that keeps your warranty intact if all you are changing is intake and exhaust.

So far... all the reports from users I have found are good... I think this will be a hit for the most part. Seems like everyone that has gotten one has had success and very good tech assistance from V/H.

I'm still keeping an open eye and hears on this...

Installed the FP3 on my bike, emailed V & H's to recommend proper MAP. Received reply back in couple of hours. Installed MAP. Big improvement. Went to Auto tune, lost communication with Iphone. Called V & H customer service. Went through several diagnostic procedures. Determined the FP3 apple chip defective. They issued UPS pick-up. Said I would take several days to repair or load stored data on new tuner and would ship back next day air. They did as they said they would. I was very impressed with their customer service. The FP3 communicates with Iphone now and works as it should. I decided not to auto tune at this time because it runs so well. **NOTE**After exploring in demo mode, you got to choose a selected MAP and flash it as if you were actually installing it. Then a lot more info is available. I would definitely recommend this tuner.
