V&H Fuelpak FP3

Just read through this whole thing. Very interesting reading.

I am running the SE tuner now. Other than knowing I need just a tad more time on the dyno to cover some minor WOT lag I've been very happy with it. BUT, this thread has me thinking......

So... I have my setup installed (V&H Naked air filter, stock pipes w/cat, Big Louie slip ons, FP3) and it runs awesome. I called V&H and got their recommended map for my setup. Should I bother with an auto-tune or let the ECM do the fine tuning?

If you are happy with performance.... no lag or hesitation.... etc.... run it like you stole it! Autotune is there for those that can't get a canned map to run 'perfect' ( using that term loosely)

I have been thinking of getting the FP3 but since I live in Cali I'm having a hard time finding someone willing to ship here at a "decent" price. does anyone on here have any suggestions?

Thanks Spazz. I'll probably leave it hooked up for a few rides just to make sure.

Peaty - go through Direct Cycle Parts. Best price, fast shipping, and a site sponsor. (I'm in Cali too and had no issues with them)

peaty I bought mine online from two cycle guys they were the cheapest I could find and I looked at iron aces, dennis kirk, etc.. under $300 and they didn't have a problem shipping it to me and I live here in san jose, ca. check them out.

Spazz, I started my autotune today and filled around half of my Table, after stopping for fuel I flashed the map to the bike, uploaded the new flash and when I went to leave and I set the autotune back up, and the Tables were blank again. will i have to start the tables over again or is there a way to start over from my previous table.

Did you APPLY or FINISH? IF you APPLY the tune... the latest populated blocks are used to continue the auto-tune process... the only BAD part is the tables are wiped clean as if you are starting over, but you are not. I have written to V/H about this since you cannot visually see what was learned and where you need to go.

If you FINISH the tune, you are done with that session.... Now if you wish to run another session on top of that one, you can.... just start another auto-tune session. This can fine-tune what it already knows is good.

Either way... you are headed in the right direction.

I take screenshots of the populated table and compare them to see what I need to do in regard to RPM and TPS %.... that way I can force a portion of the table to learn... from low rpm and small TPS % to high rpm and high TPS %..... make sense?

I have flashed twice today in 200 miles, I have only applied so far I have not finished...... you answerd my question, I never thought about doing a screeen shot make sure all blocks were poplulated. Im going to hit some back roads and try to apply the rest. THANKS BRO

No problem... key is to FORCE the tune into blocks that are not populated.... easier done on a dyno.... but you can do it... takes a bit of time and effort, and patience...

I did a 400 mile auto-tune on mine ( before my pro pipe) and got about 80% populated.... from freeways to back roads to city traffic...etc...

well I got my FP3 installed today. I went through Direct Cycle Parts. after a little hiccup (not their fault) I got it from my PO box today. Frank was great to deal with on the phone. I will be ordering from them again. Of course the sent me an awesome J&M catalog with my order. I see so much I want. Not to mention the awesome pink packing paper they used. :)

well time for a new question. the APP doesn't have my exhaust listed. should I use a generic map and auto tune? or should I contact V&H?

Contact V&H and they will give you the closes to your system or send you a map that will work.

Peaty,

TomA is right.. it is recommended you call V/H to have them choose a map for you to get as close as possible to your setup.... then you can run it and see if you have any issues ( lag, decel pop, hesitation.. etc... ) if you do, you can auto-tune.. if not... run it like you stole it!!!

BTW.... I used to live right up the road from you in Sun City...

here is a screenshot of my autotune so far, and I am very pleased. It is going to take a little work and I have a few more tables to fill until I think I will be good to go. I was talking to a HD tech today about my bike and he said I needed to break the bike in before doing autotune. He told me that I need to keep the bike under 3500 to 4000 rpm until the first 1K service. If this is true I guess I'm in trouble, Ive been beating on this thing..... what you guys think??

If i remember i think i was told 1000 miles before i could get a dyno tune because of that but not for sure!!

I say ride it like you stole it rite away! I had mine Dino tuned before I ever brought it home. I think the rings get seated better doing it this way.

You will be ok... no worries..... if anything happens trying an autotune.... you want it to happen in the first thousand..... not 10K.....

When we talked... this would have been good info to know.... lol!!!

I'll take your knowledge over an HD tech any day. I thought you knew she only had a couple hundred miles on her. Mojo and TomA was poking fun at me the other day about only having so low miles. Lol I have allot of catching up to do. She has 400 miles on her now, so it won't be long till the first service

Spazz he's trying to make me feel bad for teasing him, not going to happen lol I babied mine until the first service just because I didn't want to hurt it but you just never know until you try. Will be doing my first auto tune on my Phoenix trip while running around the city and trips through the country. Hopefully this works out for me so we shall see soon.

Tom.. he is right... I totally forgot about that 176 mile odo pic.... lol!!!

Chad... again... you will be fine.... BUT.... you may want to run it again AFTER your 1k..... break-in will settle things down a bit and it will be a much better tune.
