FP3, The Auto-Tune Process Explained

OK, so here is where I am now. Below you will see three maps. The first is from the ride I just did after applying the last learned information. The second is a side by side comparison of the first ride and the second ride. Both maps were "blank" visually upon the start. The blue cells are the new data. They still reflect yellow or green by letter. The summary between the two rides is 34 new yellow cells and 6 new green cells. the 6 green cells were not new per se. They were yellow and are now green. The third map shows where I am now.

My question is this. If I have a yellow cell now and I apply the learned information, do I need to relearn that cell before it turns green or will it go to green the next time that cell is logged? Is it truly better to keep applying or wait for more green?

Yellow is unlearned, but has some data... so it will use the applied data to keep learning from

The key is to target those areas of yellow by changing up your rpms and throttle to ride in those areas to make it learn... there is no set number of times to hit a specific cell like the Power Vision does... when it learns, it turns green.... that's it... could be 3 times.. could be 23... who knows.

Well I rode Skyline Drive yesterday. What a beautiful day! I am going to post four pictures of my spreadsheet.

1. I started my ride yesterday (285 miles) with a blank grid. I had applied after my last ride.
2. This is the map cumulatively speaking. It is the culmination of three rides and applies.
3. This is the side by side of each mapped ride.
4. I took an excerpt from the cumulative map and showed only the area in which I feel I ride.

My gut feeling is to finish, not apply, for now and see how it goes. As I understand from reading, this map that will be finished is better than where I started and I can always go back and autotune more.

Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

Good morning, I just found this forum and wanted to post a snap shot of my AFR chart and get a opinion, I have a 09 EG with Stage 1 AC and V&H slip-ons I think it is running lean and I have completed 4 auto runs with varying riding styles. Any imput would be appreciated.

I recently traded my Street Glide for an M8 Roadglide. In the mean time the FP3 app was updated and I can;t find where to set the Rev Limiter. can anyone point me in the right direction?
 
Sorry for the delay but I just keep forgetting to post an update. I finalized my map and boy did I notice a big difference. The throttle is more responsive, idle sounds better and more consistent, and the ride is even a bit smoother (seems to be). Overall I am quite happy. Thanks for all of the input.

FP3's are married to the bike... so if your FP3 was married to your streetglide... it will do you no good on your M8 Road Glide except for monitoring, it will not tune your M8... not even sure if you can buy a new license for it like you can with the Power Vision.
 
3.0.9 update brings autotune customization... anyone has had a peek in it?

SO I take it I can ignore the "engine too cold" message on my FP3 in autotune mode?

I have a slow warmup as well......I prefer that over my rolling torch 07 Road King. It's amazing what moving a lot more air and running a little rich will do.

The pv will show right on the screen if it's not learning and why. One of those possible messages will be engine temp. Iirc it's threshold is 170 degrees.

Good Morning,

I've done 5 Auto Tunes for approx 50 miles each. I have not gotten the cells to turn green. I contacted V&h and they said to flash the unit after every run as long as the cells are turning orange it is collecting data. I rode in traffic, hwy and a combination of both. When i first flashed the base map the bike ran very strong and the power curve amazing. The down fall the bike was running real hot. I could feel the heat off the motor and smell the pipes burning up. I contacted V&H and the sent me another map and the bike ran like s*&^. I flashed the first map back and started auto tune. The bike runs cooler and doesn't have the power it had as stated above. I am going to run another tank in auto tune and see what happens.
 
Dan- I've never had any issues like you describe. It sounds like the heat was caused by overly lean conditions. You could load the original HD map (position zero from your smartphone)and see if all those issues go away. If so, sounds like you started with the wrong V&H map. Are you running a full stage l?
In auto tune I ran mine thru all the gears at all RPM / speed ranges over a longer distance than 50 mile each to populate the map(s). I've done 4 downloads so far from auto tune and still have it connected so it can learn more. Good luck!
 
Thats the map V&H recommended. The bike was running real lean. Since the auto tune the lean condition has gone away. Last week when i pulled into the driveway i checked the eng temp with the app and it was 253 degs. Plus i didn't notice any heat coming off the motor. So it is working. I have noticed some pop corning when i am slowing down. I'll keep you posted to the progress.
